According to Nanahemaa Owoahene Owoabrempong Ahwenepa Nkasa Adom Kyei-Duah I, Queen Mother of the Philadelphia Movement, women become anguished during labour and it is devastating, seeing women with new born babies at hospitals, who have been discharged but cannot foot their bills. It is also disheartening to see recovered patients being detained at hospitals due to destitution.

On the 8th of May, 2023, which marked the 41st birthday of the Philadelphia Queen Mother, Nanahemaa Owoahene Owoabrempong Ahwenepa Nkasa Adom Kyei-Duah I, a delegation was sent with Second Chance TV Crew to visit various hospitals in Ashanti Region and Greater Accra Region respectively to clear the bills of women who have given birth at the hospitals and patients (women) who have been discharged but could not afford to pay their hospital bills. Hospitals visited in the Ashanti Region included Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), TECH Hospital, Manhyia District Hospital, Tafo Government Hospital, Atonsu Agogo Hospital and Suntreso Government Hospital whereas hospitals visited in Greater Accra were Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge), Amasaman Government Hospital and Ofankor Government Hospital.

In an interview with some of the detainees in the various hospitals, some have been detained for more than a month, others, for weeks but still have no hope of getting money to pay for their bills. Anonymously, the detainees at the hospitals were informed Nanahemaa had come to their rescue. The news sounded amusing to them and they blessed Nanahemaa wholeheartedly.

However, the Health Practitioners, Student Nurses and PROs who spoke with the delegates, expatiated on how Nanahemaa’s donation would help the hospitals in the sense that, the beds were occupied which posed an accommodation problem for new patients. They added that sometimes people come to pay for the bills of some patients whom they had relations with. Meanwhile, Nanahemaa Owoahene Owoabrempong Ahwenepa Nkasa Adom Kyei-Duah I, munificently paid the bills for all the detainees in the hospitals they visited as her birthday gift to the victims.

The patients expressed their profound gratitude to Philadelphia Queen Mother, Nanahemaa Owoahene Owoabrempong Ahwenepa Nkasa Adom Kyei-Duah I for being humane to them.
